What is St John Passion and who else is involved?

The St John Passion is one of Bach’s best loved works. It was first performed on Good Friday April 7th 1724 in St Nicholas Church, Leipzig after Bach had arrived as Kantor. He was keen to impress and this setting of the Passion Story overshadowed almost every piece of liturgical music the world had previously known. A perfect musical celebration of Easter anticipating the Resurrection with music suffused with light and hope.
