Stop Press:

What is a Passion Play?

Passion Plays date back to medieval times and depict the events leading up to the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. They are usually amateur productions which take place outside and involve large casts of actors and musicians.

Our Vision for Abingdon

The Abingdon Passion Play 2016 built on the popularity and success of the inaugural production which took place in the Abbey Gardens, Abingdon, on Palm Sunday 2013. It offered opportunities for people of all ages, backgrounds and beliefs to come together and re-tell the story of Easter in a dramatically exciting and accessible way.

The performance took place outside, as is traditional, in the town market place.

The play was performed on Sunday 13 March 2016. There were two performances during the day (11am and 3pm) in order for as many people as possible to be part of the experience.
